Bread Bake in Wood-fired Oven

  • Experimental Station 6100 South Blackstone Avenue Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Hello dear bakers!

Before the weather turns too warm for baking bread and for hanging out around a wood-fired oven, I thought that we ought to get a bread bake on the calendar. So mark your calendars, as I will be firing up the oven, and we will be baking bread in the Experimental Station kitchen on Sunday, June 22, 3-8pm. When you arrive, please enter through the garden patio off of 61st Street.

If you are new to a bread bake, bread bakes work best if you bring your dough already mixed up and in the rising state. The oven will be hottest at the start of the bake. So if you want to bake pizzas or other flat breads, plan to come early in the bake. Rising breads are best to bake mid-bake when the oven has cooled a bit, while breads with lots of sugar or butter will go in toward the end.

These are family-friendly events, and children are welcome—though we ask that you leave pets at home. As always, bringing something extra to share with the group is a virtue that will not go unappreciated! It has been awhile since someone brought a leg of lamb....

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Connie
