An Evening of Horror and Suspense in the Old-Time Radio Tradition
WHAT: An Evening of Horror and Suspense in the Old-Time Radio Tradition
WHO: Hyde Park Community Players
WHEN: October 21-22, 2011, 7:00 pm
WHERE: Experimental Station, 6100 South Blackstone Avenue
As the days darken and the spooky season comes around again, Hyde Park Community Players present their annual Halloween “radio show” on October 21 & 22 at 7:00 pm at Experimental Station, 6100 South Blackstone Avenue.
Directed by Bill Hohnke, “An Evening of Horror and Suspense” transports you to the studio of an old-fashioned radio horror show, to be thrilled and chilled by dramatic adaptations of stories to keep you on the edge of your seat, complete with sound effects performed live by the Flying Hammond-MacGregors. The honey-voiced Christopher Skyles returns as our host for the evening, introducing a brand-new group of short radio plays adapted from stories by Ray Bradbury, Guy de Maupassant, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Robert Arthur. The cast includes both veteran players and new faces, and features music by Jenne Lennon and sound design by Roland Labana.
Please note that, because every effort has been made to terrify as well as to amuse, the show is not designed for children. Audience members are invited to join us for a cider and doughnuts reception following each performance.
Advance tickets are $8. Last year’s show was packed to the roof, so the Players recommend buying tickets in advance online at http://hydeparkcommunityplayers.org. Or buy them in the neighborhood: at 57th Street Books (Kimbark & 57th); or at What The Traveler Saw (in the Hyde Park Shopping Center, 55th & Lake Park, Tuesday – Saturday). Tickets at the door will be $10.
