Blackstone Bicycle Works Rides in the 80th Annual Bud Billiken Parade

If you're not around the Experimental Station this Saturday for the 61st Street Farmers Market, you can catch the staff and kids from Blackstone Bicycle Works as they ride in the 80th Annual Bud Billiken Day Parade and Picnic. Come to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to watch them bike in the parade, and join them afterwards in Washington Park for a cook-out picnic.

The Chicago Defender organized the parade down Michigan Avenue to Washington Park in 1929 to celebrate the young men selling the paper on Chicago's streets. Since then, the parade has moved to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and the scope of the celebration has grown to embrace the entire South Side African American Community.
