  • MacHenry Van Hoose (Chi.)— Woodlawn based artist, exhibition of recent works

1996

  • IRWIN, NSK Slovenian Art Collective—”Conversations at the Castle,” organizing curator Mary Jane Jacob, program of Art Festival of Atlanta in association with the Centennial Olympiad Atlanta, supported by AT&T and Robert Woodruff/Coca-Cola Foundation, coast-to-coast network of conversations in Atlanta, Richmond, Chicago, SanFrancisco, Seattle; 3-day residency and discussion workshops at 61st Street
  • Rirkrit Tiravanija (N.Y.)—”In and Out” residency (Sept. -Dec. 1995) and exhibition at Gallery 400 (Feb.-Mar., 1996) collaboratively sponsored by the Resource Center and Gallery 400, Chicago. Funding provided by Nathan Manilow Foundation. Co-organized by Dan Peterman
  • Dan Peterman—”Solar System,” ongoing site-specific project, solar collector installation in 61st Street gardens, electric vehicle [exhibited with modifications at the St. Louis Art Museum, entitled “Run Until Dead,” 1998]

  • Helen Mirra (Chi.)—sound installation, building and gardens
  • Flavien (Brittany, France)—garden cabin project, installation of outdoor gallery in gardens, with exhibitions by Gaylen Gerber (Chi.) and Jim Lutes (Chi.)
  • Hosted event, “Live Banquets” art conversation with Michael Piazza, part of “Chicago as a Home For Visual Artists” program, Chicago Center for Arts Policy, Columbia College. Funding provided by John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Erica James (Hyde Park Art Center), Cynthia Weiss (Chicago Public Art Group) Brian Sykes (SAIC), Marilyn Cortes (Mexican Fine arts Museum), Jacqueline Terrassa (Columbia College), Barbara Mosinski (Illinois Arts Council Arts and Education Program), Phil Berkman (Columbia College).
  • Brett Bloom (Chi.)—”Dispensing With Formalities,” 2-year rent-free studio residency.   • Michael Hall, Lora Lode, Tom McDonald exhibition at 61st Street project space (Dec. 1997-Jan. 1998), curated by Brett Bloom
  • Grimble Grumble, Drag King musical performance in conjunction with the Hall, Lode, McDonald exhibition. Presented by 61st Street-based Won’t Go Flat Records (Chi.), an independent record label which features musicians and bands based in South Side Chicago communities.
  • Ken Fandell (Chi.)—collaborative art project and residency at Blackstone Bicycle Works, one-day public installation at Andrew Carnegie Elementary School playground. Project facilitated by Inigo Manglano-Ovalle, funding provided by Polk Bros. Foundation and the University of Illinois at Chicago-College of Architecture and the arts.
  • Site visit and discussion with Hamburg Kunstverein Board of Directors, organized by Dr. Stephan Schmidt-Wülffen, Kunstverein director

1998

  • Art Strategy & Landscape 3-day international artist workshop (May, 1998) organized and hosted by Dan Peterman in collaboration with the Galerie für Landschaftskunst, Hamburg, Germany; funding provided by Manilow Foundation. Participants: Mitchell Kane (Hirsch Farm Project, Chi.), p.t.t.red (Berlin/N.Y.), Til Krause (Hamburg), Anna Gudjonsdottir (Hamburg) Bob Braine (N.Y.), Nils Norman (N.Y./London), Paula Hayes (N.Y.), Laurie Palmer (SAIC), Bob Peters (University of Chicago), Sarah Core (SAIC), Brett Bloom (Chi.), Mark Toles (Chi.), Jamie Kalven (Chi.). Additional site visits to Michigan Avenue Bridgehouse, Governor’s State University
  • p.t.t.red (Berlin/N.Y.)—”Human Encyclopedia” presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Transportation and developed with the assistance of Dan Peterman and cooperation of Goethe - Institutes Worldwide, 2-week residency at 61st Street, exhibition co-organized by Dan Peterman
  • Rirkrit Tiravanija (N.Y.)—”Untitled ‘98″, cross-country tour with seven Thai art students, Los Angeles to Philadelphia, culminating in an exhibition at the Philadelphia Art Museum, fall 1998. Two-day residency and dinner event at Monk Parakeet.
  • Christophe Büchel (Basel, Switzerland)—2-week studio residency culminating in exhibition at T.B.A. gallery (Chi.). Residency and exhibition co-organized by Peter Pakesch–Director, Kunsthalle Basel and T.B.A. Gallery
  • SUPERFLEX Art collective (Copenhagen)—”Superflex Biogas in Africa,”10-day residency and exhibition at 61st Street, June 26-Aug. 7), part of “Bicycle Thieves” city-wide art exhibition curated by Lars Bang Larsen (Copenhagen), Michelle Grabner (Chi.), Jacob Fabricius (Copenhagen) and Brad Killam (Chi.) in cooperation with the Danish Contemporary Art Foundation
  • Stephan Eberstadt (Munich Art Academy, Munich, Germany)—residency October 1998 at 61st Street

  • Nicolas Floch, two week artist residency in conjunction with solo exhibition at Temporary services. Project coordinated by Brett Bloom.

2000

  • Hubert Duprat (Montpellier, France), two week residency , production of new work and concluding exhibition at Monk Parakeet. Funding provided by Etante Donné, foundation for French-American cultural programming.
